Night Riders

Cyclists circle a parking lot at night in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Cycling through the city with the PVD Bike Jam

Group rides have become commonplace in cities around the world, an inclusive block party on wheels. The Providence edition has all the hallmarks of a community cycling event: loud music, a long-but-doable route, and all kinds of bicycles.

Notes and Miscellanea

  • A longer essay about the PVD Bike Jam was published on Medium a few years ago, then collected in the book Mile Markers: Essays on Cycling.
  • This particular ride took place in Pawtucket, an unusual detour. The full length was about 12 miles.
  • Curiously, there doesn’t seem to be any single directory of community bike rides across the U.S., never mind on other continents. Something to consider.
