Treasure Hunt

A first-time attempt at Geocaching

Who can resist a treasure hunt? Geocaching uses digital maps, written clues, and good old intuition to lead seekers to hidden boxes.

Notes and Miscellanea

  • Geocaching has only really existed since 2000, growing alongside the popularity of GPS. To learn how to participate, visit the Geocaching website.
  • Before Geocaching, there was Letterboxing, a similar outdoor puzzle-game that apparently dates back to the 1850s.
  • A favorite read this year was Chasing the Thrill, by Daniel Barbarisi. The book chronicles the “Thrill of the Chase,” an elaborate treasure hunt orchestrated by eccentric millionaire Forrest Fenn. Instead of Tupperware containers with beads and tchotchkes, Fenn’s treasure was a chest full of actual gold and jewels. The book lives up to its name.
