How a dormant enthusiasm for skiing quickly snowballs.
Downhill skiing is a pricey pastime, and even a native New Englander finds plenty of reasons not to participate. Years can slip by between outings, with the halfhearted promise, “Maybe next winter.” But when the opportunity finally knocks, all those childhood skills come rushing back. Muscle-memory kicks in—and all you can do is surrender to the thrill.
Notes and Miscellanea
- All footage was shot on Wachusett Mountain in Massachusetts. Truly, this is an excellent resort, especially for beginners.
- Your childhood was equally divided by downhill and cross-country skiing. You have a strong appreciation for both, even if most Vermonters insist that only one or the other is “real” skiing.
- You tried snowboarding once. Big respect, but never again.
